The Ancient Greeks
 
Focusing on who the Ancient Greeks were, where they came from and what influence they have had on our lives today.  We explore the role of archaeology and interpretation in history whilst looking at the Greek myths and legends.  We provide costumes for everyone, whilst using, drama and original artefacts to bring the Ancient Greeks to life within
your classroom.
 
 
The day starts when Thucydides (greek historian and
ex war general)and Lysimache (priestess of Athena's temple enter your classroom and enlist the children as Greek
                citizens.  An short talk introduces the children to life in
                Ancient Greece and familiarises them with the Greek Empire.

'Trial by Jury' -the children experience the beginnings
of Democracy as we re-enact a Greek Trial
 
 
We take another look at life as a Greek Citizen,
highlighting the different roles for men and
women. A look at clothes leads into the highlight
                of this year's fashion calendar, the 3000th
               'Annual Ancient Greek Fashion Parade!'
 
 
The Importance of being Homer' - we explore the
importance of story telling as an historical source.
Greek Mythology leads us into religion, culture and
                the Olympic Games.
 
 
The Palace Mysteries
The children become archaeologists as they excavate
a ruined palace to uncover it's mysteries.
 
 
The children have a chance to visit our
Mini Museum and handle original artefacts.

The Greek Play
After an introduction, the children will be helped to write
and perform their very own Greek Play.  We provide props 
                 and costumes, and create a theatre within your classroom.
 
What have the Greeks done for us?
The day concludes with a look at some of the influences
that the Ancient Greeks have had on our lives today, including
                 architecture and democracy. 
 
 
 
The Ancient Greeks Sample Day Plan
  • 09.00-09.15   Class have registration/assembly as normal
  • 09.15-10.00   Introduction to the Ancient Greeks, who they were and where
                          they came from.  Spartan Boot Camp.
  • 10.00-10.30    Life as an Ancient Greek: Costumes, Fashion Show, Trial by Jury.
  • 10.30-10.45    Playtime
  • 10.45-11.00    Homer, story telling and the Greek myths/religion. Olympic Games.
  • 11.00-12.00    The Palace Mysteries -introduction to archaeology and other sources.
  • 12.00-13.15    Lunchtime
  • 13.15-13.45    When did this happen and how do we know this? Human timeline    
                           and visit to the Mini Museum.  
  • 13.45-14.00    The Greek Play.
  • 14.00-14.45    Write plays, rehearse and perform using costumes and props.
  • 14.45-15.00    What the Greeks did for us.
  • 15.00              End

Whole Day £250
Half DAy £150
 
  • Each workshop goes out with 2 members of staff and can be fitted around the normal school timetable.
  • We bring costumes for everyone (sorry teachers - that doesn't include you!)
  • We cater for up to 60 children at a time
  • £250 for a whole day/£150 for a half day workshop
  • £1 per child for materials
  • £1 per child for the Ancient Greeks food-tasting experience
