Living History Workshops - History Workshops for Schools & Community Groups
 Egyptian Workshops for Schools

The Ancient Egyptians

Bring the Ancient Egyptians to life in your classroom with this one day, fully interactive workshop. We provide costumes and make-up for everyone as we take the children back to an era 5000 years ago.  Mummify a friend, try your hand at Egyptian crafts and live life as a Pharoah before travelling back to the future to excavate an ancient tomb.

Background & Culture
We take a look at life in Egypt about 5000 years ago.
All of the children will be invited to wear costumes and try their hand at traditional crafts.

Pharoahs
A Pharoah and a Queen will be chosen. We look at the role of the Pharoah in Egyptian civilisation, part of which will involve constructing a tomb.

Mummification and the afterlife
On hearing the sad news that their Pharoah
has died, the children will be divided into groups
to take part in the burial: tomb paintings,
mummification and canopic jars.
Please note: no children are harmed in this exercise!

Hierolglyphs
We learn about hieroglyphics, and the children
will each make a pewter cartouche to take home keep.

Archaeology & Historical Interpretation
After lunch we take a look at archaeology and historical sources.  The children re-visit the tomb of  their Pharoah - 5000 years have passed - what will they find?

Valley of the Kings
A fast and furious round of
'Egyptian Tomb Raider' introduces the Valley of the Kings - audience participation an absolute must!

Original Artefacts
Mini Museum - a chance to touch original
artefacts and look at other historical sources.

Belly Dancing
Dating back thousands of years,
Belly Dancing is still an important
part of Egyptian culture.  We take
you through some of the basic moves - full
teacher participation expected!

We provide all costumes, materials and face paints.
